Epilepsy

Supervising Attending:

  • Dr. Rachael Benson and rotating attendings

Description:

During the epilepsy elective, residents will be assigned to a variety of specialty clinics in the Epilepsy division. This may also include sessions in continuous and/or routine EEG. 

Objectives:

  • Recognize when a patient has a seizure or epilepsy syndrome
  • Identify epilepsy phenomenology and classification of seizures
  • Diagnose and manage common epilepsy syndromes
  • Identify uncommon and rare epilepsy syndromes
  • Understand the properties and indication of different anti-Epileptic medications
  • Identify criteria for surgical evaluation and treatment of epilepsy

Requirements:

  • Attend assigned clinics and see at least one new and one follow-up patient per session
  • While not required, this rotation provides the opportunity to complete your ambulatory NEX evaluation

Schedule:

  • You are expected to attend the following conferences during your rotation
    • Surgical conference (Monday 12pm)
    • Research conference (Friday 12pm)
  • You are welcome to attend all  fellows noon conference series or join resident noon conference
  • The clinical schedule will be provided by Dr. Rachael Benson
