Scholarly Projects and Resident Research

Participation in a scholarly project is required before completion of the residency training program to broaden the residency and recognize the roles that neurologists in practice take beyond clinical care. The scholarly project may involve participation in quality assurance or improvement projects, community outreach, educational initiatives, or research. Every graduating resident presents their scholarly project at the spring Annual Resident Research Day.

Additionally there are four optional tracks for residents. These are the (1) medical education track, (2) research track, (3) Quality Improvement track, (4) Global and Community Health Track. These tracks meet monthly with track mentors.

Residents may apply for the NIH-funded R25 program to be funded during the PGY-3 or 4 year.  Funding would carry over into the first year after residency is completed in order to allow for application for other NIH funding. Residents who are interested work with Dr. Sheng-Kuo (grant PI) as well as various mentors in the department, to submit an application to the NIH.
