Advising and Mentoring

The program director is the advisor for all residents, unless research or clinical interests identify an alternate more suitable faculty advisor who is willing to advise. The advisor will meet periodically with the resident beginning in the first year to:

  1. Offer career advice;
  2. Help the resident determine his or her career goals and objectives;
  3. Help the resident create a plan for achieving these objectives;
  4. Help the resident choose electives as appropriate;
  5. Refer the resident to others who may be better able to provide this advice.

The advisor is also available to meet with the resident as often as necessary to address specific issues as they arise, and to provide, when asked, personal advice.

Beginning in the third year, the Chairman and Program Director may meet more frequently with residents to help residents develop post-residency plans.

Both the Program Director and the Chairman are also available to meet with residents at any time as required or needed.
