The Pediatric Neuromuscular Clinic is one of the features of the Child Neurology Residency. Run by Dr. Darryl De Vivo in collaboration with Dr. Claudia Chiriboga this clinic is a true multidisciplinary clinic for children with neuromuscular disorders of all kinds. Disorders in the clinic include myasthenia gravis, Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy, Myotonic Dystrophy, CIDP, SMA and other rare neuromuscular disorders. Frequently children with hypotonia and weakness are referred without a known diagnosis for initial evaluation and management.
Each week the clinic meets on Tuesday afternoons. At 12:00 an interdisciplinary review of the patients scheduled for the day takes place with the Pulmonologists, Geneticists, Child Neurologists and Physical and Occupational Therapists that attend the clinic. Residents scheduled to attend the clinic are expected to attend this conference. At 1pm patients begin being seen. As needed they are seen by the various subspecialists. Many patients are actively enrolled in ongoing clinical research. Child Neurology Residents in their 2nd and 3rd program years and senior Adult Neurology Residents are assigned to this clinic periodically throughout the year.
Core competencies are consistent with those in the Ambulatory Clinic and are listed separately in Appendix 2.
