Fellows’ research is encouraged by the program director, department chairman, and faculty body. A major goal of the fellowship program is to help fellows initiate and develop research goals during their training.
Faculty in the Epilepsy/EEG and Neuromuscular/EMG divisions are active participants in federal- and foundation-funded investigator initiated research and multi-center research studies. Fellows may participate in these and create their own research projects under the mentorship and supervision of a faculty member. Each fellow will meet with the program director before starting fellowship in order to identify research interests and an appropriate research mentor. Each fellow has mandatory research elective blocks. Once identified, mentors will meet regularly with fellows to discuss clinical research methods, ongoing clinical trials and to facilitate research projects. Mentorship of the research project is an obligation and commitment on the part of the faculty member(s). In addition, monthly group discussion with fellows and key research personnel will be held to review ongoing progress.
