The goals of post-graduate Epilepsy education at Columbia represent a broad target of the institutional effort and its educational philosophy: to provide trainees with knowledge for the specialized evaluation and treatment of patients with seizures, epilepsy and related disorders. This will include clinical evaluations and all testing relevant to epilepsy (including routine and ambulatory EEG, video-EEG, intracranial video-EEG, Wada testing and neuroimaging studies).
- To prepare trainees for the independent and ethical practice of epilepsy treatment by providing an educational experience that is based upon supervised clinical work with escalating responsibilities in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- To encourage continual intellectual growth in trainees through mentorship.
- To provide a comprehensive educational experience for trainees, based on the ACGME six core competencies:
- Patient care and procedural skills
- Medical knowledge
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Practice-based learning and improvement
- Professionalism
- Systems-based practice
