Continuous EEG elective

Supervising attending:

  • Dr. Rachael Benson and rotating faculty

Description:

During the continuous EEG elective, the resident will rotate through the continuous EEG service of the Epilepsy Division.

Objectives:

  • Name the different techniques for arranging EEG leads
  • Use and understand appropriate terminology for EEG (ie montage, amplitude, frequency, etc)
  • Describe normal and abnormal features of EEG background
  • Describe normal EEG features of wake and sleep states
  • Recognize normal EEG variants
  • Interpret abnormal EEG patterns/variants
  • Identify EEG patterns of status epilepticus
  • Identify common EEG patterns due to systemic medical illnesses
  • Write an accurate EEG report

Requirements:

  • On the first day of your rotation, pick 1-2 cases with the fellow that will be your responsibility to read
  • Present to the attending daily and draft report for fellow to submit to the EMR

Schedule:

  • You are expected to attend the following conferences during your rotation
    • Surgical conference (Monday 12pm)
    • Research conference (Friday 12pm)
  • You are welcome to attend all  fellows noon conference series or join resident noon conference
  • The rest of your weekly schedule will be provided by Dr. Benson based on the attending and fellow schedules

Location:

NICU Reading Room, NI 7, or virtual.  Usually starting at 9am. Contact fellow for the week for weekly schedule.
