Movement Disorders

Description:

The elective week in Movement Disorder residents will be assigned to a variety of specialty clinics in the Movement Disorders Division.

Objectives:

  • Recognize when a patient has a movement disorder
  • Identify movement disorder phenomenology and categories (ie hyperkinetic verse hypokinetic disorders)
  • Diagnosis and manage common movement disorders
  • Identify uncommon and rare movement disorders
  • Identify and understand what are the characteristics of movement disorder emergencies  and need for referral for inpatient management
  • Identify of criteria for surgical evaluation and treatment of movement disorders
  • Management of movement disorders
  • Identify indication and use of EMG guided Botox  in movement disorders

Requirements:

  • Attend assigned clinics and see at least one new and one follow-up patient per session
  • Attend at least one speciality clinic (will be assigned by Dr. Katus)
    • Botox clinic with Dr. Pullman or Dr. Kaplan
    • DBS evaluation with Dr. Kwei
  • While not required, this rotation provides the opportunity to complete your ambulatory NEX evaluation

Schedule:

  • You are expected to attend the following conferences during your rotation:
    • Video Rounds (Friday 12pm)
  • You are welcome to attend resident clinic didactic video rounds session (Monday 10am, NI 1-14)
  • Your weekly schedule will be provided by Dr. Linn Katus
