Neuro-Immunology/Neuro-Infectious Disease

Description:

The week in Neuro-Immunology residents will be assigned to a variety of specialty clinics in the Multiple Sclerosis Division with exposure to Neuro-Immunological and Neuro-Infectious Diseases. This may include Dr. Kiran Thakur's or Dr. Kathryn Holroyd's neuro-infectious disease clinic. 

Objectives:

  • Recognize when a patient had a neuro-immunological condition
  • Diagnose and manage common neuro-immunological conditions
  • Identify uncommon and rare neuro-immunological conditions
  • Understand the properties and indication of disease modifying therapies
  • Identify neuro infectious disease subtypes (bacterial, viral, fungal, etc)

Requirements:

  • Attend assigned clinics and see at least one new and one follow-up patient per session
  • Email Dr. Thakur and Dr. Holroyd (the Friday before you start your rotation) to inquire about the inpatient consult service - they will include you in rounds and discussions of active neuroinfectious or neuroinflammatory cases
  • While not required, this rotation provides the opportunity to complete your ambulatory NEX evaluation

Schedule:

  • You are expected to attend the following conferences if they fall during your rotation:
    • Weekly neuroimmunology conference (Tuesday 12pm)
  • Your weekly schedule will be provided by Dr. Straus Farber and Dr. Holroyd
