Description:
The goal of this rotation is to provide neurology residents exposure to neuro-interventional procedures that residents are not exposed to in the core neurology residency curriculum. As a clinical experience, residents will be able to participate in the evaluation of patients under consideration for these procedures gaining knowledge of indications, risks and benefits and common complications. They will also get to learn neuro-vascular techniques through observation.
Objectives:
- Identify criteria for surgical evaluation and treatment of neurovascular disorders, including thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling and clipping, and carotid artery procedures (MK)
- Define risks and benefits of each neurovascular procedure (MK, IPCS)
- Observe and participate in obtaining consent for patient (PC, MK)
- Identify common complication of neurovascular procedures (MK, SBP, PBLI)
- Interpret diagnostic angiograms (PBLI, MK)
Requirements:
- Join the neurointerventional team each day of the week and observe a variety of cases
- Ideally observe one thrombectomy and one diagnostic angiography if possible
