Description:

The elective week in Rehabilitation residents will be assigned to in-patient primary Rehab and out-patient rehab clinics focusing on Neuro-Rehab and Musculoskeletal Rehabs. They will also get exposure to specialized PT/OT/SLP/Neuropsych evaluations and treatment sessions.  Goal is to gain clinical knowledge and evaluation and treatment techniques of musculoskeletal and neurological diseases from a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation expertise.

Objectives:

  • Summarize referral criteria to rehabilitation for neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Identify rehabilitation treatment options for neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Explain key components of the history and physical examination pertinent to PM&R
  • Assess impairments, disability, and functional recovery based on the international classification of function (ICF) criteria
  • Develop a 5-10 minute neurology lecture pertinent to rehabilitation

Requirements:

  • You are expected to develop a 5-10 minute neurology lecture pertinent to rehabilitation
  • You should demonstrate a patient transfer to a physical therapist

Schedule:

  •  Wednesday: COS conference 8:30am-10am, then join inpatient rehab team on 8GN (~9:30/10am-5pm)
  • Thursday:: Morning report 8-9am, spent morning in rehab lectures with rehab residents then join inpatient rehab team on 8GN for afternoon
  • Friday: Spend morning in sports/spine rehab clinic on VC3, afternoon  on 8GN inpatient rehab unit
  • Monday: Spend morning in 8GN inpt rehab, afternoon in neuro rehab clinic and msk/bracing clinic
  • Tuesday: spend morning on  8GN inpt rehab, afternoon - flex time
    • During this morning, neurology resident will give a 5-10 min lecture for unit
