Stroke (Outpatient)

Supervising Attending:

  • Dr. Joshua Willey

Description:

Some residents will be assigned to longitudinal outpatient stroke clinic for six months.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the symptoms characteristic of stroke and neuro-vascular disorders
  • Describe stroke syndromes and neurological localization
  • Learn neurovascular anatomy
  • Identify mechanisms of neuro-vascular disorders
  • Diagnose and manage common neuro-vascular disorders
  • Identify uncommon and rare neuro-vascular disorders
  • Understand stroke secondary prevention
  • Identify criteria  for surgical evaluation and treatment of neurovascular disorders
  • Interpret Doppler studies (TCDs and carotid dopplers)

Requirements:

  • Attend assigned clinics and see at least one new and two follow-up patients per session

Schedule:

  • You are expected to attend the following conference during your week:
    • NICU conference (Tuesday/Thursday 12pm NICU conference room)
    • Stroke conference (Friday 12pm)
  • The rest of your weekly schedule will be published based on the attending schedules
    • Check amion for daily clinic attending assignments
    • Check EPIC to view patient appointments for your assigned attending
    • Contact Chief Resident if schedule is not published 1 week prior to your rotation
