TITLE: HOUSE STAFF WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORT SERVICES
POLICY:
NYPH is committed to providing services and developing systems to minimize the work of house staff that is extraneous to their GME programs. Although house staff members are critical members of the patients care teams, NYPH recognizes that the house staff are primarily engaged in educational activities.
NYPH provides patient services, such as intravenous services, phlebotomy services, laboratory services, and transport services to support the care of our patients. Under routine circumstances, house staff physician will not be called upon to provide these services. There will be times when, because of patient safety or patient emergency, a house staff physician will be asked to provide these services.
NYPH will evaluate all environment and support services on a periodic basis to monitor if house staff physicians are participating in support service activity that is extraneous to their GME programs and could be addressed by other members of the institutional care team.
